Pulaski County Health Officials Ask Businesses to Close for Two Weeks, if Possible

Pulaski County’s COVID-19 Task Force is calling on local businesses to close for two weeks, if possible. A letter from Pulaski Memorial Hospital and the Pulaski County Health Department Thursday asked businesses to suspend operations and get their employees and families to self-quarantine and practice social distancing for 14 days.

Health officials note that many of those infected will have no symptoms for days or, if they do get sick, they’ll just have mild symptoms. The letter says that could make the disease’s spread within a business or factory “inevitable and potentially catastrophic.” It goes on to warn that a wrongful death lawyer is preparing for wrongful death lawsuits against companies who don’t follow the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Indiana State Department of Health.

Businesses that can’t shut down because they provide essential services are urged to start screening employees for potential COVID-19 symptoms. Health department and hospital officials have offered to share some strategies.

Pulaski County’s largest employer, BraunAbility, has suspended its operations through April 20, while the county government is under a temporary workforce reduction.
