Starke County EMS Crews Working to Stay Safe during Pandemic

Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary is working closely with Starke County Public Health Nurse Frank Lynch, local hospital supervisors, the EMS coordinator, and Medical Director about COVID-19 and its developments.

Clary noted that they’re staying on top of the recommendation set forth by the CDC to try to maximize resources.

He asks that residents let dispatchers know if anyone in the household is suffering from illness when calling 911 to request an ambulance.  The EMTs and paramedics want to be sure that everyone is safe.  The crews may work with a reduction of people inside the home to reduce exposure.  An assessment can be made in an open air environment in order to provide a treatment plan from that point.

Clary added that a certain filtration system has been included to ventilators to reduce the amount of respiratory droplets exhaled out of the patient’s lungs into the ventilator circuit for safety.

He urges all to adhere to the recommendations from the Starke County Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Indiana State Department of Health in order to work together against COVID-19.
