The City of Knox is gearing up for leaf pickup week and golf cart registration.
Leaf pickup is expected to begin today and end Friday, May 8. Mayor Dennis Estok said leaves should be placed in the street next to the curb in a long row. Trash, branches, limbs, or other brush should be removed from leaf piles in order for the equipment to work properly.
Bagged leaves will not be collected by the waste contractor.
Branches and limbs will be collected by the Knox City Street Department every Thursday. The crews will not take leftover debris from professional tree removal jobs as it’s the responsibility of the company to haul it away from the business or residence.
The compost pile at the corner of Shield and Mound Street is available for city residents. Leaves, grass, garden material or brush should not be left in bags or containers.
The City of Knox will host a golf cart inspection day on Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT at the Knox City Police Department at 101 W. Washington St. This is an opportunity for residents to obtain the necessary permit for the year that begins June 1 through May 31. At that time, officers from the Knox City Police Department will inspect golf carts to ensure they can be legally operated on city streets. Registration is required if a golf cart is to be operated on the city streets. The fee is $25 for a day operation permit and $30 for a day and night operation permit. The permit will be a certain color for the permit purchased.
