Indiana Launches COVID-19 Testing Map, More Sites Planned

Efforts continue to make COVID-19 tests easier to get. Indiana State Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver says the state has put together an online map of testing sites.

“It includes ISDH drive-through clinics, hospitals, local health departments, and other community-based testing,” she explained during Monday’s COVID-19 press conference. “It shows both mobile and fixed testing sites. You can click on a link and find the location, the hours, and the testing criteria for each of those locations.”

Weaver also said that registration is now available for the 20 testing sites operated by OptumServe Health Services that are set to open on Wednesday. Those include sites in LaPorte, Logansport, Valparaiso, and South Bend.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms and those who’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive can schedule an appointment at LHI.care/CovidTesting or by calling 888-634-1123. Additional Optum sites are expected to open in Marshall and Cass counties next week.

Weaver noted that the state hasn’t seen the big spike in cases that was initially expected. “It went up and then it has leveled off and is even kind of going down,” she said. “So that is what we’re going to continue to watch over the next weeks and months to make sure that everything continues to keep that nice level plateau.”

She said that while the number of cases may increase as more testing takes place, hospitalizations and EMS runs have started to level off.

Also during Monday’s press conference, Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Peter Lacy announced that some of the state’s license branches are now open by appointment only for certain transactions that can’t take place online or over the phone. Appointments can be made at IN.gov/BMV or by calling 888-692-6841.
