Knox Board of Works Still Awaiting Final Repairs at 1 & 3 N. Main

The City of Knox is still waiting for a couple of building owners to finish required repairs. The owner of 1 & 3 North Main Street had most recently been given until Wednesday to complete a few final items, but Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board of works Wednesday that the work still hadn’t been done.

Pfost said a big concern is a fire escape that could pose a safety hazard, since its railing is too low and it’s not very secure. Board members agreed to give the owner until June 24 to have the work 100-percent complete.

Meanwhile, the city has begun filing paperwork to put a lien on 6 North Pearl Street. Pfost reported that the owner still hasn’t paid a $5,000 civil penalty that was due May 18. Mayor Dennis Estok noted that the city can continue adding periodic assessments until the property is brought into compliance with the city’s order.

The board of works has been monitoring both of those buildings for years.
