Over 400 Starke County Households Receive Help with Food Program

The Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program mobilized last week and officials are pleased to see that people who need help are getting assistance.

The Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program is an opportunity for residents to get a choice of two boxes full of essential groceries or a hot meal from a local restaurant.  The program is for those who need assistance due to COVID-19 or who are quarantined.

In its one week of operation, the program has assisted 434 households with 316 grocery boxes and 787 hot meals.  Food is delivered by volunteers who work for the Sheriff’s Department, Community Corrections, Auditor’s Office, Assessors Office, and Prosecutor’s Office, along with Starke County Commissioner Bryan Cavender, Starke County EMA Director J. Nier, Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary, Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall, and representatives from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.  State Representative Jim Pressel delivered meals on Tuesday in the Bass Lake area and will be delivering in the City of Knox on Thursday, May 7.

The program is funded by generous grants from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.  Donations are being accepted and can be mailed to Northern Indiana Community Foundation, P.O. Box 807, Rochester, IN  46975.  The money will be funneled back to the program through the foundation.
