Starke and LaPorte hospital patients can now proceed with their elective procedures. Hospital officials say they’ve successfully resumed some outpatient elective services.
The hospitals are limiting the number of procedures performed each day, as part of the effort to keep patients safe from COVID-19. They’re also stepping up their cleaning efforts, screening everyone who enters the buildings, and making sure patients with COVID-19 are kept separate from those who don’t have it.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. James Leonard says it’s important to reschedule procedures that have been delayed, so health conditions don’t deteriorate.
Meanwhile, doctor’s offices that are part of the LaPorte Physician Network continue to offer telehealth, and appointments are being spread out to reduce the number of people in waiting rooms. Hospital officials remind residents to get immediate help if they have a medical emergency.
