The Town of North Judson is finally getting a splash pad. Materials and plumbing quotes for the Norwayne Field splash pad were approved by the town council Monday. The splash pad materials will come from Rain Deck for just over $10,000, while TLC Plumbing will do that work for a little more than $27,000.
That’s roughly $30,000 cheaper than the company the town had been working with, Vortex Aquatic Structures. The town decided to seek other options, after the company increased its quote by almost $11,000. Council Member James Young previously explained that Rain Deck’s quote will actually include a couple more fixtures than the Vortex quote called for.
Quotes still need to be finalized for electrical work and concrete installation. North Judson utility crews will handle the removal of some of the existing concrete in preparation. The hope is that the work will start in early July, so the splash pad will be complete this year.
Plans are also moving ahead for a new restroom to go along with the splash pad. The town hopes to cover 80 percent of the $81,000 cost with some of the money that Constellation of Starke got for being a finalist in last year’s Stellar Communities Designation Program. Council members approved the submission of a project narrative, as part of the funding application process. The project would include a full restroom facility along with a shaded area for picnic tables.
