The Pulaski County Election Board has finalized the results of last week’s primary. Clerk JoLynn Behny says that of the hundreds of mail-in ballots sent out, only two were returned after the deadline. She says a total of 35 ballots were rejected.
One of the biggest issues was mail-in ballots with missing signatures. Behny says the election board plans to help reduce the issue by adding a bipartisan absentee board for November’s General Election. It will be able to oversee the absentee voting process and can help make sure the incoming ballots have the necessary signatures.
The election board also wants to focus on a few things in the next round of poll worker training, such as the forms for voters who didn’t get their requested mail-in ballots and want to vote in person.
Additionally, Behny says it appears that Tim Overmyer may plan to stay in the race for county council. He had indicated to the Clerk’s Office that he wanted to withdraw from the primary, but ended up getting enough votes last week to move on to the General Election.
Behny says the rejection of the ballots during Thursday’s election board meeting had no impact on any of the contested races.
