Starke County Accident Claims Life of One Driver

A two-vehicle accident in Starke County claimed the life of one of the drivers on Monday afternoon.

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin said the preliminary investigation showed that one driver was following another while traveling south on U.S. 35 in Hamlet.  Shortly after 3:30 p.m. CT, the first driver attempted to turn east at 400 N. and was rear-ended by the second vehicle.

The driver in the second vehicle was not responsive when first responders arrived at the scene, according to Sheriff Dulin.  He said the driver was transported to Starke Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The other driver was reportedly not injured.

No other information is being released at this time.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS, Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, and Knox-Center Township Fire Department.
