Police are warning of a burglary scheme involving people pretending to be NIPSCO employees. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says that last Friday, an elderly homeowner in LaPorte had someone show up at his home saying he was from NIPSCO and needed to trim some trees away from wires on the property. As they walked through the home to the backyard, another man allegedly went inside and committed a burglary.
The first subject is described as a white male, about 5’7” to 5’8” tall, wearing an orange or yellow shirt and a hat. The second subject is described as a black male of medium height with a slender build. A black Chevrolet or Nissan passenger vehicle with tinted windows and chrome rims may have been involved. Anyone with information is asked to email Deputy Austin Wells at awells@lcso.in.gov.
Police encourage residents to avoid letting people in their home unless they’ve made prior arrangements and to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
