Pulaski County Leaders Look for Public Input on Grant Application to Help Small Businesses

Pulaski County government leaders are seeking to apply for a State CDBG COVID-19 Response program grant in the amount of $250,000.

Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer said the second round of, long-term funds awarded from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs will help the county’s small businesses.

“Just as the City of Knox successfully applied during the first phase, we are looking at applying for funding for a small business relief grant program here in Pulaski County to be able to provide support to businesses that have been hamstrung by the impacts of the shutdowns and slowdowns in response to the virus spread,” commented Origer.

He added that there are a few qualifications that will have to be met in order for small businesses owners to have a successful application for funds, if the county is awarded the grant.

“We’re still having conversations with potential applicants to assess how much need there ultimately will be.  Right now we’re looking at the full $250,000 max amount, but looking to determine if that may change based on the interest expressed and the needs of those businesses that expressed interest.”

The county hopes to put in the grant application to the state by July 31.  The Pulaski County Commissioners will take public comments from residents in support or against the county’s application in a public hearing on Monday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m. ET at the Pulaski County Highway Garage.

If residents are unable to attend the public hearing, written statements should be submitted to KIPRC representative Emily Albaugh, PO Box 127, Monon, Indiana 47959 no later than Friday, July 17 at 4 p.m. ET.
