A Knox woman was sentenced on a charge of attempted robbery in Starke Circuit Court Thursday morning.
Maeve Concannon, 24, pleaded guilty to the Level 5 Felony charge in a plea agreement negotiated between her attorney, Katrina Smock, and Starke County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Micah Cox.
She admitted to Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall that she entered the Next Door Food store in Knox on Feb. 6 of this year and demanded free gas and cigarettes from the attendant. The demand was made in such a way that the attendant was placed in fear. Concannon said that she was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
She apologized for her actions and told Judge Hall that she is going to do what it takes to live and clean and sober life for her children. She said that graduated from the Intensive Outpatient Program while incarcerated and was a trustee at the Starke County Justice Center.
She was sentenced per the terms of the plea agreement that capped the count of attempted robbery at three years. The manner in which the sentence would be served was up to the discretion of the judge. After further testimony, Judge Hall sentenced Concannon to serve a three year sentence on home detention with electronic monitoring. She will need to attend whatever programs are recommended by Starke County Court Services.
This sentence will run consecutively to a case in Marshall County. In May, she plead guilty to a charge of possession of a narcotic drug as a Level 6 Felony in a Marshall County court. She was sentenced on that charge per the terms of her plea agreement to 180 days with no part of the sentence suspended.
