La Porte Man Loses Life in Accident

A La Porte man died in a two vehicle accident on Thursday morning in rural Scipio Township in La Porte County.

Witnesses say shortly after 9 a.m. CT, 58-year-old David A Voltz failed to stop at a stop sign when he came upon the intersection of County Road 150 West and County Road 400 South.  A semi tractor-trailer traveling east on County Road 400 South, driven by 62-year-old Lance R. Hindsley of La Porte, could not avoid a collision as Voltz’s Chevrolet Blazer entered the intersection, according to a report by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department.

Voltz was pronounced dead at the scene.  Hindsley was transported to an area hospital for treatment to an upper body injury.

Toxicoloy tests are pending, but police believe that alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Captain Derek J. Allen, Deputy Ken Etchison, Deputy Ryan Elcock, Indiana State Police, La Porte Fire Department, Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department, La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Haz-Mat, and the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
