Completion of the Knox Wastewater Treatment Plant project has been delayed yet again. The board of works Wednesday reluctantly agreed to extend substantial completion to the week of October 12 and final completion to November 12.
Engineer Steve Henschen with Jones Petrie Rafinski said Thieneman Construction had made good progress, but wouldn’t be done by the previous deadline of next Monday. “If we go out there and look at it today, the building’s basically 90-, 95-percent done,” he said. “They’re wiring inside. They’re doing their final paint coatings and starting to place equipment. That will start happening, probably, later this week.”
But Mayor Dennis Estok stressed that this will be the final extension, and if the work isn’t done in time, the contractor will be penalized. Henschen said Thieneman didn’t give a solid reason for the delay but blamed at least part of the issue on a disagreement between the two companies over basement finishes.
