Officials Announce New Name for Starke County Hospital

Starke Hospital is now known as Northwest Health – Starke as announced Wednesday morning.

The announcement was made by Northwest Health Chief Operating Officer Jeff Vice who stated that the hospitals are coming together to best serve patients.

“Today, Porter Regional, La Porte and Starke Hospitals have joined together to strengthen the ways we provide outstanding care, to help our communities look forward to healthcare services, more doctors, and easier access to quality care,” stated Vice.

Vice added Northwest Health also announces the renaming of all of the units within its system.  Porter Regional Hospital will now be known as Northwest Health – Porter and La Porte Hospital will now be known as Northwest Health – La Porte until the new replacement hospital opens on October 24. In 2019, the combined entities cared for more than 17,000 inpatients, 85,000 emergency patients and 430,000 outpatient visits, and almost 400,000 patients visited physician offices in person or virtually.

Vice commented that the alignment will expand care.

“Being a part of a regional system with a single name supports the ways we connect with each other as colleagues.  The benefits will get stronger over time, share best practices and clinical expertise, and strengthen the ability to recruit physicians and the best and brightest colleagues to join our team.”

The ownership and leadership at the hospitals are not changing.

Vice further commented that throughout the end of the year everyone will see new signage, new forms in physician’s offices and departments, new websites, and a new Facebook page, among other updates.
