Work is picking up at the Knox Wastewater Treatment Plant. That’s according to Engineer Steve Henschen with Jones Petrie Rafinski. He told the board of works last week that the building shell is up, and the building is almost completely enclosed. Henschen added that work inside the building was proceeding at a “rapid pace.”
In July, the board of works agreed to extend the project timeline by 56 days, in spite of Mayor Dennis Estok’s concerns that Thieneman Construction hadn’t put enough effort into the project.
Henschen said Thieneman is still pushing to reach substantial completion by the new deadline of September 28 and is on track to reach final completion by October 27. But he also pointed out that he’s been discussing some additional changes with the city’s Wastewater Department, including the construction of a room inside the facility, which could impact the project’s cost. The board already approved a nearly $46,000 cost increase back in June.
