La Porte City officials announced Tuesday morning that one La Porte TransPorte bus will be resuming operations after negative COVID-19 test results were received for a driver and dispatcher.
The service was disrupted Monday after a La Porte TransPorte employee recently tested positive for COVID-19. That employee was tested on Wednesday, September 30, but continued to work for the rest of the week until the employee got notification of a positive test on Monday. La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody stated in a press release that the city will be “following its internal correction action policy regarding an potential discipline” of that employee.
Employees went to work on deep cleaning buses on Monday and then the employees were tested for COVID-19. So far, all employees with the City of La Porte have had negative test results.
Dermody stated that service will expand gradually as more employee negative tests results are received.
City residents or recent TransPorte passengers with concerns are encouraged to take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing at the Civic Auditorium.
