La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody announced Monday that the TransPorte service in the City of La Porte is suspended after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
Dermody stated in a press release that the employee was tested on September 30, but continued to work for the rest of the week without notifying city officials. The individual alerted officials Monday morning of the positive result. Dermody said the city will be “following its internal corrective action policy regarding any potential discipline.”
The service is suspended until further notice and all buses are undergoing a deep cleaning process. In addition, all TransPorte employees are being sent for COVID-19 testing. Dermody said the City has no reason to believe that there was any spread of the virus or drivers or passengers.
La Porte City Hall will be closed to in-person meetings this week, but they will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
City residents or recent TransPorte passengers with concerns are encouraged to take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing at the Civic Auditorium. To register, visit lhi.care/covidtesting or call 888-634-1116.
