Knox City Government is starting to feel the effects of the COVID-19 surge. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday that a four-person department is now down to one.
“Two of them’s got it. One of them’s quarantined, and he’ll find out here shortly with his test,” Estok explained. “So we’ve had, so far, our share of people quarantined and staying off of work. And, to me, it’s only going to get worse.”
That’s why he decided last week to close City Hall to the public. But he said that doesn’t mean city employees aren’t working. “We closed it down for the public, just to protect our employees and, actually, to protect the public also,” Estok said. “We’re here every day working. We have to keep government going. Our crews are working. So if anybody needs to get in, it’s by appointment only. We can bring them in to talk to them.”
Estok added that the city departments have been doing a good job at following the precautions that the city has set forth.
