The Hamlet Park Board hopes to begin work on the Robert J. Tauteris Jr. Memorial Walkway in March. The four-foot-wide concrete path will encircle the Town Park.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Board President Dave Kesvormas explained that about $2,500 left over in the 2020 park budget will be rolled over to next year. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts plans to file additional appropriation paperwork in January, allowing that money to be spent in the 2021 budget.
That’s on top of the $5,058 raised by Hamlet American Legion Post 356. The Legion is expected to officially hand that money over to the town in January. Town officials were hopeful that additional grant funding might also be available.
Kesvormas said he wants the project organizers to meet with the engineer during the February park board meeting to finalize plans, with construction to start the following month. He said he’d like to have it done in time for the Easter egg hunt and Mother’s Day.
