Leadership of the Pulaski County Board of Commissioners is going to its two new members. Chuck Mellon was elected president, and Maurice Loehmer was elected vice president Monday, during the commissioners’ first meeting of 2021. Both were nominated by Commissioner Mike McClure, the only holdover from last year.
They agreed to keep all of the appointed department heads the same until further review. Mellon said an animal control officer will be appointed once the interview process is complete.
The commissioners also appointed representatives to several boards and commissions. Loehmer will serve on the Community Development Commission and safety committee. McClure will represent the commissioners on the advisory plan commission and local emergency planning committee, while Mellon will serve on the emergency response and ADA committees.
Commissioner Mellon will also join Nathan Origer as the county’s representatives on the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission. Arlene Metzger will replace Mellon on the county’s health board, and Dave Schambers and Rita Carpenter were reappointed to the property tax assessment board of appeals.
The commissioners approved the holiday and meeting schedules for 2021. Pulaski County employees will get 12 holidays this year, two fewer than last year, due to the lack of elections. Commissioners meetings will continue to be held the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Eastern and the third Monday at 8:30 a.m. Joint sessions with the county council take place the second Monday of every other month at 6:00 p.m., starting in February.
