North Judson is looking to put more teeth into its animal ordinance. During last week’s town council meeting, Council President John Rowe noted that pet owners have until February 15 to get their 2021 pet tags. After that, a late fee will take effect.
Rowe called on the town’s police department and code enforcement officer to start randomly checking dogs for tags. He noted that many loose dogs don’t have them, and town officials have no way of knowing where they belong.
Town Marshal Kelly Fisher said she and Code Enforcement Officer Kerry Rust also want to look at updating the town’s ordinance. “We’ll check around with different areas and also check with [Town Attorney] Justin [Schramm] and see what we exactly can do with updating it, making it more appropriate for the time, and what the actions are and what steps we need to take for dogs that are being constantly loose,” Fisher said.
Rust said there are also a couple other ordinances that he would like to clarify.
