Winamac town employees will go back to their regular work schedules next week. During a special meeting Monday, the town council voted to have all employees return to work but make sure they follow social distancing protocols. Town Hall will remain closed to the public, though.
Council members Tom Murray and Alvin Parish voiced some concern, but Judy Heater felt that employees will be able to distance from each other. She noted that many do much of their work on their own.
The council also agreed to let town employees continue using any remaining COVID-19 leave through the end of March, at the recommendation of Town Manager Brad Zellers. “We’ll provide sick pay for our employees if they get it or, you know, a family member to where they’re quarantined at home and can’t work,” Zellers explained.
Offering paid leave for COVID-19 became optional at the end of December. Many local school corporations have approved similar extensions.
