The Starke County Commissioners considered extending COVID pay for employees at their most recent meeting.
The federal government stopped the program on December 31, 2020, but many government leaders in other counties have agreed to extend the benefit through 2021.
The Family First Coronavirus Response Act allowed a full-time or part-time employee up to 80 hours of regular pay if that employee had to quarantine at the recommendation of a physician or health officer, if there was a positive COVID-19 test results, or if that employee had a child in a daycare or school that had to close due to COVID-19.
Once that 80 hours is complete, the employee has to use sick time, vacation time or not be paid for that time.
The commissioners unanimously approved a motion to extend that COVID pay through July 31, 2021.
