The Town of Winamac is joining the list of local communities seeking COVID-19 relief for its businesses. The town council recently agreed to let Town Manager Brad Zellers start the application process for the state’s COVID-19 Response Program.
“We’re going to put in for $150,000, and any business in town that had hardship through whether it’s paying employees, just keeping their doors open, can apply and get this,” Zellers explained. “And there is no cost to the Town of Winamac.”
This third round of the COVID-19 Response Program is more competitive, and larger cities are able to apply. Just in the local area, the list of communities applying includes Pulaski County, Starke County, Knox, and North Judson.
Still, Zellers thinks it’s a good way to show the community that Winamac is there to help local businesses. “Everybody’s going to. You know, why not? Our people, our businesses deserve us to try for this to help them out,” Zellers said.
The Winamac Town Council will take comments on the grant application Monday evening at 6:00 EST in the Winamac Municipal Utilities Complex.
