The Culver Town Council members were presented with an intergovernmental agreement with Marshall County last week concerning the former City Tavern building at 415 Lake Shore Drive.
The town has a lien on the property for demolition and cleanup efforts after a fire there in October 2019. The property was up for sheriff’s sale, but the sale was stayed after bankruptcy paperwork was filed on behalf of Scotty Van Hawk and the 27 Group.
Culver Town Attorney Jim Clevenger told the council that the goal is to lift the bankruptcy stay of the sheriff’s sale. When the property does sell, Marshall County will receive $35,000 in real estate taxes, and the Town Council will get $72,000 for its judgment lien.
The intergovernmental agreement outlines the sharing of fees between the county and the Town of Culver to file legal paperwork to lift the stay of the sheriff’s sale.
The Culver Town Council members unanimously approved the agreement. The Marshall County Commissioners unanimously approved the agreement during their meeting on February 15.
