The Culver Town Council members opened a public hearing last week to take comments on a proposed adjustment in rental rates at the Culver Beach Lodge.
Park Superintendent Amber Cowell said several updates were done to the Culver Beach Lodge with a completely renovated interior and ADA accessibility improvements.
“With this investment in the Beach Lodge, we decided that it was necessary to go ahead and raise the facility rental rates just the Beach Lodge,” stated Cowell.
The rental of the second floor of the beach lodge in the off-season, which is fall to spring, would jump from $107 to $171.20. The in-season price would go from $155.15 to $214.
Since the Office of Community and Rural Affairs provided grant funding to update the Beach Lodge through Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation, Gerry White from OCRA suggested offering a reduced rental rate of the second floor of the Beach Lodge for those who are low-to-moderate income status. The off-season rate would be $128.40 and the in-season rate would be $160.50.
Town Attorney Jim Clevenger asked what sort of guidelines would be in place on how a family could provide proof of low-to-moderate income status. Cowell responded that she would meet with White to get a recommendation on those guidelines.
Other fees and costs did not change. A list of charges is listed below.
There were no public comments provided during the meeting.
The town council members agreed to approve the first reading of an ordinance that outlines the proposed changes, but they would like to see the recommendations from OCRA before the second reading of the ordinance during their next meeting.
