Culver Town Council Signs Documents for Electric Car Charging Station

The Culver Town Council members considered a Memorandum of Understanding with the Michiana Area Council of Governments concerning a grant to install electric charging stations for electric cars.

The Indiana Volkswagen Diesel Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee recently awarded funding for 56 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations across the state, including 11 sites in the MACOG region in northern Indiana.  Culver and Plymouth were among those recipients. Consider these benefits that can occur when switching from a regular gas car to a diesel option in here you can find one of the largest diesel parts suppliers.

The agreement allows the Town of Culver to submit reimbursable costs up to $9,000 for the installation of a charging station with two available parking spots for cars.

The town has until December 31, 2022 to complete the project.

In the Memorandum of Understanding presented to the Culver Town Council members Tuesday night, MACOG will purchase the charging stations and then invoice the town minus a $500 credit.  The installation and additional costs will be the town’s responsibility.  MACOG may have access to the data portal and submit required reports to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

The electric charging stations will be located on Jefferson Street just east of Main Street with proper signage to be installed, including its location on wayfinding signs.

Town Marshal Wayne Bean noted that the charging station should be included in the parking ordinance.  He addressed a potential issue where a gas-powered vehicle would park in one of the two spaces available and the ordinance would regulate any violations.

The council members approved the Memorandum of Understanding with a vote of 3-1 with Bill Cleavenger opposed to the motion.  Ginny Bess Munroe was not in attendance at the meeting.
