Fugitive from La Porte County Apprehended in Arkansas

Timothy J. Bailey

A man who was to surrender himself to the La Porte County Jail nearly two weeks ago to begin serving a prison sentence was apprehended in Arkansas this week.

Timothy J. Bailey, 53, was sentenced in La Porte County Superior Court 1 Thursday, March 11 on a Level 5 Felony charge of theft, according to the report.  He received a sentence of five years to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections.  He was required to self-surrender at the La Porte County Jail by 5 p.m. the next day.  However, police say he did not surrender by the deadline.

As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for failure to appear for two original Level 5 Felony counts of theft and one Level 5 Felony count of offer or sale of an unregistered security.

Police say officers from the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST) began their search and on Sunday, March 21, members received an anonymous tip about Bailey’s possible location.  The Yell County Arkansas Sheriff’s Department was contacted and officers there were given information about Bailey.

The next day Bailey was taken into custody by deputies with the Yell County Sheriff’s Department, according to the report.  Police say Bailey remains in the Yell County Jail in Danville, Arkansas without bond.  He will be extradited back to La Porte County at a later date where they might set bail. He has requested the help of a bail bondsman if that is the case.
