The City of Knox is moving ahead with its application for more COVID-19 relief for local businesses. The city council recently passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Dennis Estok to apply for $200,000 through the state’s COVID-19 Response Program and committing a $10,000 local match.
Estok said the application process for businesses would be similar to last year’s. “If we receive the funds, then the amounts will determine how many applicants that we’ve got and some of the other factors involved, how many employees they have,” he explained during the required public hearing on the application. Estok previously discussed including mask compliance as a determining factor.
During the required public hearing on the application, Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Edwin Buswell said this round is more competitive, but he thought Knox still had a good chance of getting funded. Funding recipients are expected to be announced on April 15.
