Planning Continues for Norwayne Field Upgrades

North Judson continues planning for upgrades to Norwayne Field. A restroom will be installed near the new splash pad, funded in part with the money Constellation of Starke got for being a finalist in Indiana’s 2019 Stellar Communities program.

Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe told the town council last week it will be similar to the one recently added to Sandy Acres Park in Knox. “Small footprint, two units, single-stall, so when you go in, there’s not anybody else coming in and out, that kind of thing,” Rowe explained. “They described it as, in the morning they drop it, and it’s operating and open to the public by the afternoon.” He said there’s also an opportunity for future improvements, such as a bottle filling station or heat for winter operations.

Rowe also presented options for benches and picnic tables. Funding for those got a boost, thanks to a $250 check presented by The Point Drive In during last week’s meeting. Rowe is looking into setting up a fund to accept similar donations going forward.

He also said town officials have been talking to North Judson-San Pierre art teachers about having students paint the sidewalk along State Road 10. “You know, trees, flowers, music theme, a few other themes that they’re going to be doing some design elements on, and it’ll be that new paved sidewalk along the wall area of Norwayne, something you would see driving by, add some color,” Rowe said.

The concrete around the splash pad could get a similar treatment in the future.
