Visitors to Winamac High School could soon be greeted with a more welcoming entrance. Superintendent Dara Chezem says the Eastern Pulaski School Board got a tour of some of the areas school officials would like to update, during a work session Monday.
“Some of the areas that we looked at and have been discussing is updating the look of the high school entrance on the interior to get some signage there as you enter the building and right in front of our main gym,” she says, “also to update the cafeteria with some school spirit signage and some student artwork.”
At the elementary school, Chezem says school officials are looking into painting the gym and cafeteria, as well as replacing the classroom furniture. “The student desks and chairs that are in that elementary building are original to the school when it was built back, I think, in the 1970s,” Chezem adds.
The elementary school could also get some roofing upgrades. Chezem says Tremco believes much of the roof could be restored but one 400-square-foot area with more significant moisture issues should be replaced.
The superintendent says no decisions were made, and the school corporation is just looking at getting quotes. She says upgrades could potentially be funded by money in Eastern Pulaski’s Operations or Cafeteria funds and possibly some federal COVID-19 response funding from the ESSER grants.
