Knox City Council Creates Fund for American Rescue Plan Act Money

The Knox City Council took action Tuesday that will allow the city to accept $740,000 in federal COVID-19 relief money. Council members passed an ordinance creating a dedicated fund for American Rescue Plan Act money, based on the guidance of the State Board of Accounts.

Those funds can be used to respond to the public health emergency or its economic impacts, pay essential workers, make up for lost revenues, or invest in infrastructure. But Mayor Dennis Estok said the creation of a specific plan will have to wait for more guidance from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

The city council also passed a resolution related to that money’s appropriation.
