The City of Knox is officially exploring its options before renewing its trash and recycling contract. The city council Tuesday agreed to let Mayor Dennis Estok seek bids for solid waste and recycling pickup.
He said that either way, prices are going up. “So just to be fair to the users, the residents, it’s probably in the best interest for us to go ahead and bid that out and try to get the best deal we can, knowing that the rates are definitely going to go up,” Estok told council members. “They could be up as high as five dollars for the next three years per resident.”
The city’s current contract with Waste Management is up July 31.
