The Pulaski County Council is expected to consider wage issues at a number of county departments tonight. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners last week that his department trails many neighboring counties when it comes to pay rates, while the jail remains slightly under-staffed. He’s expected to continue that discussion with the county council tonight.
Council members generally agreed last month to begin the process of restructuring the county’s Maintenance Department, but they still have to set salaries for the newly-hired maintenance director and head custodian.
The county council is also expected to discuss the idea of letting previous full-time employment count toward seniority. Currently, if a full-time employee goes to part-time status and then back to full-time, that person’s longevity would start over. The issue was apparently brought up by Pulaski County EMS, which has been looking at various ways to try to resolve staffing shortages. Wage issues at the Recycling and Transfer Station and a potential pay increase in 2022 will also be discussed.
Tonight’s Pulaski County Council meeting starts at 7:00 EDT in the Pulaski County Highway Garage. It will be streamed live on the Pulaski County, Indiana, Government Facebook page.
