Culver Town Council Receives Updates on Trail Projects

Plans for the second and third phases of the Lake Max walking and biking trails are still moving forward.

Culver Town Manager Ginny Bess Munroe told the town council members Tuesday night that a contract was up for consideration with The Troyer Group for inspection of the second phase of the Lake Max Trail.  Munroe stated that the contract would be for an hourly contract that would not exceed 12.5 percent of the project cost, or $118,000.

Munroe said it is rare that the entire amount is used, but that is common language in contracts like these.  She added that INDOT would pay 80 percent of the cost and the town would pay 20 percent.

The contract was approved with a unanimous vote.  The second phase of the Lake Max Trail includes a one-mile extension of the trail from the Culver Park to Washington Street, Plymouth Street and South Main Street.  The project could go out to bid in July.

As for the third phase of the Lake Max Trail, Munroe explained that the agreement is still being negotiated with Culver Academies concerning the alternative route by the abandoned railroad property.  The route would go from the Culver Town Park to the old railroad corridor, across State Road 10 to Sycamore Road, east to 16C, and then 16C back toward State Road 10.
