A juvenile was recovered from Lake Michigan from the area of Washington Park Beach in Michigan City Saturday night.
Indiana Conservation Officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the area just after 9 p.m. CT. According to the report, the juvenile and two of her family members were pulled into deeper water by a wave. Conservation officers say nearby good Samaritans rescued two of the swimmers, but the juvenile did not resurface.
The juvenile’s body was located by Michigan City Fire Department divers at 9:52 p.m. CT, according to the report. She was transported to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City where she was pronounced dead.
The exact cause of death is pending autopsy results as Indiana Conservation Officers continue to investigate the incident.
Indiana Conservation officers were assisted at the scene by the Michigan City Police Department, Michigan City Fire Department, La Porte County EMS, Indiana State Police, La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, and the United States Coast Guard.
