Frisbee Golf Could Be Coming to Wythogan Park

Wythogan Park’s next attraction could be Frisbee golf. Mayor Dennis Estok presented a proposal to add a nine-hole course during last week’s Knox City Council meeting. “It’ll be another amenity down at the park for us, for people to do,” Estok said. “I know it is big in other places. It’s growing. So I think we’d be the first one around the area to have one.”

However, the Town of Winamac also has funding in place for a Frisbee golf course.

Estok expects the course to cost $8,000 to $9,000, with design alone costing at least $3,000. The cost will also depend on whether concrete pads are used for tees or if some other surface can be used instead.

The city council approved the mayor’s request to commit $4,500 out of the city’s Riverboat Fund. He plans to request the rest of the money from the redevelopment commission.

“You’ve got to continue to make improvements to the community,” Estok explained. “Whether people will catch on to it, I have not a clue. I know for some of those that like golf that can’t play golf, it’s a different type of golf. It looks interesting.”

Estok said the Frisbee golf course could be installed by this fall.
