Two Knox property owners have been given 30 days to finish repairing their buildings or face a $2,500 fine. Mayor Dennis Estok told the rest of the board of works last week that the front of 1 North Main Street has had broken glass for months, and while owner Pete Milev said he has some replacement glass, it hasn’t been installed yet.
“But it ain’t doing no good if the glass is up in Valpo or Chesterton or wherever it’s at, “Estok said. “He’s got to get it in, and he promised months ago that he would get it in.”
Estok also said that Melvin Zeiters still has some work to do at one of his properties. “Basically, he has most of his properties cleaned up, except one. He needs to do a little more on Lewis Drive, which they said that they will get that completed.]
Neither Milev nor Zeiters showed up for the public hearings on their properties. The board of works unanimously approved the $2,500 fines, if they don’t finish the work in 30 days.
