The Pulaski County Election Board members may move the early voting site for 2022.
Clerk JoLynn Behny said the ongoing construction at the Justice Center could be an obstacle to host early voting there, but to ensure a more secure election, the board members have discussed setting up early voting in the basement of the Pulaski County Courthouse.
Behny noted that Sheriff Jeff Richwine and his staff have been very accommodating as hosts for the early voting site at the Justice Center, but security in moving the voting machines and equipment would be best kept at the courthouse. Additionally, if there are issues with anything, Behny’s office is at the courthouse to handle troubleshooting.
There are no active offices in the basement and the poll workers could assist voters with early voting in the north hallway between the offices that formerly housed the assessor and surveyor offices. An effort would be made to clean out the basement and have air purifiers in that area.
The basement can be accessed by those who are physically challenged as the wheelchair ramp should be open that goes down to the basement. Plus, the elevator is fully functional.
The Pulaski County Elected Board has not made any final decisions and it will be an ongoing conversation in future meetings.
