The Memorial Swinging Bridge committee in Pulaski County is $5,000 closer to its goal of $275,000 to illuminate the footbridge over the Tippecanoe River at the Winamac Park.
Over $100,000 has been collected so far with a $5,000 donation recently contributed by Myron and Mary Henry toward the project.
The bridge was built to memorialize Pulaski County soldiers from all wars. Committee and community members will celebrate the bridge’s centennial in July 2023.
The estimated cost of the project includes the installation of 3,900 computer-controlled, waterproof LED lights in a variety of colors, and the electronics that will allow the Town of Winamac to control the lights, changing them to different color combinations, according to information submitted by Karen Fritz. The LED light fixtures will have a rated life of 12 years, and the tower and base fixtures will have a rated life of 25 years. The lights are fully encased in waterproof materials and are rated to withstand flooding.
To date, $97,615 in gifts has been given toward this project along with $9,620 in pledges in a fundraising campaign that spans 10 months. In-kind donations of products and services totals just over $10,000.
