North Judson Town Council to Take Public Comment on Police Car Purchase

The North Judson Town Council members will open their next meeting to public comment concerning the potential purchase of a Tesla for the North Judson Police Department.

The Tesla is an electric vehicle and it would be the first of its kind on the fleet, if the council members agree to buy one.  Town Marshal Kelly Fisher previously told the council that the annual cost of electricity is estimated to be less than a fifth of what the town currently spends to fuel one of their existing vehicles, and maintenance costs would also be significantly lower.

Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said Fisher and Town Council President John Rowe would like to hold a public input session surrounding this potential purchase.   He said the battery and the length of its charge has been a topic of conversation on social media channels.

What Is The Eligibility For A Business Car Lease? “Kelly has done quite a bit of research on this and she’s seen a lot of other departments that are transitioning to this,” said Rowe.  “When we’re a smaller town like this your coverage is not as big as major cities or smaller cities, so having the battery and the charging ability to make it work in town it’s not really a problem and the shift allows for the use of an electric vehicle with a charge.”

Those who would like to speak in support or against the matter will be able to put forth comments during the council’s next meeting on Monday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. CT at North Judson Town Hall.
