The Pulaski County Superior Court was awarded a $97,700 grant for the Pulaski County Veterans Treatment Court.
The funding came from the Indiana Office of Court Services. The grant will support a part-time coordinator for the program, treatment, resource development, training support, and funding to help support additional programs and educational components for the court program. The Pulaski County Courts have been working to develop a Veterans Treatment Court and other court related programs over the past year with the leadership of Dr. Natalie Tucker.
The Pulaski County Veterans Treatment Court was certified for operation in 2019 which was the 100th problem solving court in the state to gain certification.
Four graduates have completed the program so far. Court officials spent two years in the research and development phase in order to get to its current course of operations.
The court works to link veterans with resources to help them confront sobriety, mental health, or other challenges they are facing as it stems from their military service. Court officials say the effects of military trauma can sometimes lead to criminal behavior, drug abuse, and mental health challenges.
