Winamac Park Board Gets Update from Pulaski County Tribe on Art Project

The Winamac Park Board members recently got an update from Pulaski County Tribe member Brandi Larkin about the organization’s proposed Art in the Park project at the Winamac Town Park.

“That encompasses aesthetically improving the artisan well, the installation of some artwork on the grounds, as well as a public celebration next spring,” commented Larkin.

Larkin said a group of volunteers met in October to clean up the artisan well which is the first phase of the project.  She said the second and third phases include greenscaping around the well in the spring and the installation of artwork.

She asked the board members for assistance with lighting the artwork along the river’s edge.  Larkin said the artwork would be some sort of large-scale metal silhouettes.

“I wanted to give you the opportunity to let us know what considerations there may need to be for this component of the project.  Again, it’s in a floodplain and I don’t know how we could run power over there.  I don’t know what you would be willing or able to partner with us to do for the lighting of this component or what potential expenses would be.”

She also wanted guidance on what kind of base would be needed for the artwork, although no answers were needed at that time.

The organization is working with the Roudebush Company to make at least three bench swings to be included in the Winamac Town Park.  The organization would solicit the community to sponsor the bench swings and the park superintendent could install the swings.  The board members approved a motion to move forward with that concept.  More information on that component of the project will be released soon.

A date for the Art in the Park event is proposed for May, but a specific date has not been selected.
