Knox City Council Reviews Ordinance Giving Knox Police Department Limited Agency for Park Board for Limited Purpose of Denying Entry

The Knox City Council members reviewed an ordinance during their most recent meeting that would authorize the Knox City Police Department to act as the limited agent for the Knox Park Board for the limited purpose of denying entry.

The ordinance was at the request of the Board of Works and the Park Board to ensure that the Knox City Police Department was the agent for the limited purpose of denying entry to any person in violation of state statute, an ordinance code, or any other lawful purpose deemed necessary by the Knox City Police Department.

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok and Police Chief Harold Smith explained that the Knox City Police Department will have the authority to tell individuals to leave the park and keep denying entry if causing a public nuisance, but not necessarily breaking the law.  The City of Kokomo recently passed a similar ordinance.

The council approved the ordinance with a unanimous vote.
