Starke County Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert discussed a fuel contract with the commissioners Monday night.
Dipert said he has been looking at the fuel budgets and it will be at the budget for 2022 as long as the price stays where it is now. He asked if the commissioners want to enter into a fuel contract right now.
Dipert presented quotes from Co-Alliance, but Auditor Rachel Oesterreich thought since the total price was over $400,000 it should go through the bid process.
However, since the commissioners would like to do a three month contract as the fuel market is volatile, County Attorney Justin Schramm said if the cost is under $150,000, which is likely the case, then the Highway Department would issue an invitation for bids and then open bids in the next public meeting. Dipert said he would work with Schramm to get the necessary paperwork done and receive bids by the next commissioners meeting.
