The Knox City Council and Board of Works members discussed police operations during work sessions prior to their respective regular meetings last week.
Mayor Dennis Estok said it is an attempt to attract and retain officers within the department.
“The work session was about take home cars as far as a policy allowing them to take their vehicles home,” explained Estok. “We have to amend the SOPs [Standard Operating Procedures] to do that. It was also about increasing the vacation time of a police officer, changing the schedule of work of a police officer, and going from salary to hourly.”
No formal action was taken, but the Board of Works members are expecting to approve a policy on take-home cars in June. The vacation time and salary adjustments will be ironed out in an updated salary ordinance to be approved for 2023. The work schedule was previously adjusted and approved.
