SCILL Center Graduation Held

On Tuesday, May 24, SCILL hosted a crowd of over three hundred to pay tribute to the sixty-one graduating SCILL seniors in the AREM/Robotics, Auto Technology, EMS, and Welding programs.

SCILL Coordinator Jerry Gurrado emceed the program; following opening thanks and recognition of seniors entering the military, new Executive Director Jim Hernandez and North Central CTE Director, Jennifer Felke were both welcomed into the SCILL family. Ms. Cassandra Hine (attorney in North Judson) was the featured speaker. In addition to a moving poem via YouTube, the crux of Ms. Hine message was “Putting some amen in every day”.

Following the speaker, multiple awards were given out in each program with Mr. Bill Gregor presenting for AREM, Mr. Josh Holdread & Mr. Levi Schleg for Auto, Ms. Gale Hawkins for EMS, and Ms. Rachel Moore for Welding.

Best in programs were Trent Rosenthal in AREM, Derick Bers in Auto, Annastasia Hutchings in EMS, and Brandon Fifer in Welding. In addition to those and many other award winners as close to $10,000 worth of scholarships and awards were given out with many being donated by local businesses or individuals, Jayden Moore was recognized for being the first SCILL student to advance to the National Skills USA competition this June in Atlanta. SCILL’s most prestigious award, the Mathew Swanson Over & Above Award (initiated due to instructor Levi Schleg’s time as a SCILL student) went to both Derick Bers of Auto and Jakob Huitt of Welding.

Following the program refreshments were provided by Downtown Depot.
