North Judson Officer Not Injured after Monday Evening Accident Responding to Possible Abduction Call

A Monday night call of a possible child abduction ended with the safe return of the child, but an accident prior to getting to the scene ended with a damaged North Judson Police Department vehicle.

North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher said the North Judson Police Department was dispatched to a possible child abduction call in the Bass Lake area Monday, May 30 around 5 p.m. CT.  An officer responding to the call was traveling on 400 South near 100 East when the 2021 Dodge Durango the officer was driving hit a crown in the road, followed by a dip in the asphalt, according to the report.  Fisher said the dip in the asphalt likely broke the A arm which caused the officer to lose control, leave the roadway, travel through a wooded area, and stop in a field.

Fisher noted that the officer’s training in emergency vehicle operations kept the accident from further damage and injuries.

A second responding officer was able to stop and check on the first officer.  The pair then continued responding to the call in the second officer’s squad car.

A child was found and returned home safely, according to the report.  Fisher said Corbyn Howard was arrested on a preliminary charge of invasion of privacy and taken to the Starke County Justice Center.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department and Knox City Police Department assisted in the case.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
